THE URBAN SPA NETWORK IS GROWING!

Since the first SPA was declared within an urban center in Extremadura in 2004, this pioneering initiative has been widely accepted by different groups such as local and regional governments and conservation NGOs. However, while the network of urban SPAs in Extremadura grew to 19 declared spaces, no other region in the world had declared a building or group of buildings as a protected space because of its biodiversity value.

Work starting on the awareness-raising campaign with the local population and schools in the Urban SPAs

ALGAKON, the company selected for the campaign, is starting work on awareness-raising and information dissemination to the local population and schools within action E7 of the LIFE-ZEPAURBAN project. In the framework of this action, external assistance was planned to be contracted to provide talks to primary and secondary schools, as well as to provide guided visits to urban centres, for both school students as well as the local population, to increase awareness about the lesser kestrel..

The LIFE-ZEPAURBAN project for the conservation of the lesser kestrel will implement thirty actions over the next 4 years

Up to December 2020 the Regional Ministry for the Environment and Rural Affairs, Agricultural Policies, and Territory will carry out a total of 30 actions included in the LIFE project for the conservation of the lesser kestrel in the urban Special Bird Protection Areas.
